Technique: stone with a commemorative plaque
Dimensions: max. 350 cm × 250 cm × 150 cm (boulder)
Object: Daniel Gralath (1708–1767) was a citizen of Gdańsk, scholar and mayor. He was mainly involved in legal and natural sciences and wrote the first scientific paper on electrostatics. In 1742, he founded the Gdańsk Natural Society. Gralath was the initiator and founder of the Linden Alley along Zwycięstwa Avenue.
The monument is in the form of a boulder placed on a base made of field stones. It was unveiled in 1893, but the commemorative plaque is modern – it was made in 2003, because after World War II the monument was dedicated to scouts murdered by Nazi German forces. When the monument to the fallen scouts was moved to a square in Hucisko, the boulder was fitted with a metal plaque with an inscription in Polish and German, reading: “To the founder of this alley, mayor Daniel Gralath, b. 30 May 1708, d. 23 July 1767, on the 150th anniversary of the Natural Society he established – founded by the city of Gdańsk 1893 2003”.
Place: The statue is located at the entrance to the park stretching across Zwycięstwa Avenue, next to which there is also the Linden Alley founded by Gralath, between the Gdańsk University of Technology and the Medical Academy.
