The painted decoration is positioned above the windows on the ground floor and two upper floors. Above the ground floor, two rectangular panels depict female market vendors in ornate, lace-adorned mobcaps. They are selling poultry and eggs. Above the first and second floor windows, smaller rectangular panels feature plant scrolls supported by roosters and hens. The tenement underwent conservation in 1979 and 2015, with the latest work carried out by Anna \u017bychska.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> The painted decoration was created as part of an effort by artists \u2013 primarily lecturers and students of the State School of Fine Arts in Gda\u0144sk (PWSSP) \u2013 to contribute to the reconstruction of G\u0142\u00f3wne Miasto, which had been heavily damaged in 1945. D\u0142uga Street and D\u0142ugi Targ were among the first areas to be rebuilt. The most valuable tenements were faithfully reconstructed, while others were given stylistic adaptations inspired, more or less, by their pre-1945 appearance. These restored fa\u00e7ades were intended to serve as a backdrop for the reconstructed historical monuments.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information about the author:<\/strong> J\u00f3zefa Wnukowa (b. 1911 in Warsaw, d. in Sopot in 2000) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, and afterwards lived in Paris and Lviv. During World War II, she was active in the resistance and participated in the Warsaw Uprising. She moved to Sopot in 1945, becoming a key figure in the emerging artistic community on the Baltic Coast. A long-time lecturer at PWSSP, she contributed to the reconstruction of Gda\u0144sk\u2019s G\u0142\u00f3wne Miasto tenements (1952\u20131955) and decorated the interiors of the G\u0142\u00f3wne Miasto Town Hall in 1970. In addition to architectural painting, she worked in easel painting, textile art, and designed opera set designs and costumes.<\/p>\n<p>Boguchwa\u0142a Brami\u0144ska (b. 1922 \u2013 d. in Gdynia in 2019) graduated in painting from the State School of Fine Arts (PWSSP, 1952). Between 1953 and 1954, she worked with teams led by Stanis\u0142aw Teisseyre and J\u00f3zefa Wnukowa on the artistic decoration of fa\u00e7ades on D\u0142ugi Targ and D\u0142uga Street. She later taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the Gda\u0144sk University of Technology in the Department of Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture.
