In 2018, the fa\u00e7ade underwent a major refurbishment under the \u2018Gda\u0144skie Fasady OdNowa\u2019 project, which aimed to improve the quality of public spaces in G\u0142\u00f3wne Miasto by adding architectural decoration to existing buildings that were omitted during Gda\u0144sk\u2019s reconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>The biaxial fa\u00e7ade gained a modest decoration in the gable end of the fa\u00e7ade in the form of a sun made with a popular technique used during the historic reconstruction of the G\u0142\u00f3wne Miasto district: the sgraffito.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Place:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The building is located in an area designated as a heritage site, in the vicinity of St Nicholas\u2019s and St John\u2019s churches. As a result of the wartime destruction in 1945, the urban layout was changed. During the reconstruction of Gda\u0144sk, part of the original development of \u015awi\u0119toja\u0144ska Street was not reconstructed, Ksi\u0119\u017ca Street was removed. The resulting quarter was adapted into a square.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Information about the author:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Przemys\u0142aw Garczy\u0144ski <\/strong>graduated in graphic arts from the Maria Curie-Sk\u0142odowska University in Lublin, where he studied from 2007 to 2013 (he presented his graduation work in Prof. Piotr Lech\u2019s studio), and in painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Gda\u0144sk (2018, Prof. Maciej \u015awieszewski\u2019s studio). He currently works at the Department of Basic Education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gda\u0144sk, led by Jacek Zdybl, PhD.
